Tips to Join a Teams Meeting – the EASY WAY!

It’s a common misunderstanding that you need Teams to join a Teams meeting, lets fix that now because all you need is a modern browser such as Chrome or Edge and you DON’T need anything special to join the meeting or online webinar being run on Microsoft Teams.

You don’t need an Office/Microsoft 365 account, you don’t even need a plain old Microsoft account (like a live.com, hotmail.com or outlook.com account) or download anything onto your desktop to join a Teams Meeting but you will get a better experience if you have Teams.

You can attend the meeting using a modern browser such as Chrome or Edge and you can do it anonymously if you wish and the video below shows you how.

For the best experience during the meeting or session you can install the Microsoft Teams App but it is Optional.

You can get the Teams Apps here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-teams/download-app

Again, you do not require a Microsoft/Office 365 account to use the Teams client app.

Here’s some extra general information (from Microsoft) about joining a meeting via Microsoft Teams can be found here:

If you already have the Microsoft Teams app on your device, please ensure it is updated to latest version before attending. Having the latest version will give you the best experience available.

Please take a moment to check your audio is working on the device you plan to attend on. Check both the microphone and speakers are working correctly and a wired headset may improve performance.

Troubleshooting:

For the most part you shouldn’t have issues though these tips may help, especially if you are new at this.

  • It’s best to check your systems before the meeting
  • The presenter may be unable to troubleshoot individual connection issues during the session, especially if it’s more than a one on one or there are other constraints such as time etc.
  • If you do have issues attending on the day for some reason, try leaving and re-entering the meeting or rebooting your device.

If you are unsure or wish to test your Microsoft Teams environment prior to the session please contact the meeting organiser to arrange a time to test things out.
